The most important book you’ll ever read

Life itself can be represented metaphorically through thousands of objects and ideas, however it cannot be doubted that most of us have a preference when it comes to describing our perspective on the subject. A book, an object of boredom in the eyes of some, while for others a piece of true value that dominates over material possessions, holding something much more useful in essence when it comes to the things that truly matter.

It is human nature to tend towards the ideals, rules, and defining characteristics of society, and mostly, of those who are looked up to, famous, and wealthy. It is also human nature to appreciate appearances over content, making us like a bad reader in a library, looking for the books with the most amazing, shiny, and spectacular cover and artwork. But as soon as we finish reading something that holds no value besides it’s beautiful cover, we quickly realize that we are in the same place, perhaps doing even worse than before taking this decision.

Wasted time that we will never get back, perhaps money and effort we put into something expecting it to be as amazing as the exterior, choosing it over much, much better options that were less apparently pleasing, but which held, in the end, what we were looking for. It is important to understand that this example can be taken into many contexts, but also that it should not be defining wrong choices in some of them.

In essence, the whole world around us can be represented like a colossal library, where each person’s life is a book, not so neatly categorized, spanning an almost endless range of characteristics, from beautiful covers to stories that bring a smile to our faces, perhaps even make us cry, giving us lessons and making us reflect to what we are and should do. It is up to you to decide what books you want to invest time into, and it is up to you to look back at what you wrote with pride, and not regret, because your life is the most important book you’ll ever read.

It is up to you to decide what books are you going to tear pages out of, with or without your presence, and what books you are going to reconstruct from the messy fragments that hold the devastating past written in them. You don’t need to be a bookworm to understand what I’ve written above, you just need to realize the true impact of your every action and act knowingly, because as long as there is ink we can write with, it’s never too late to fill out the pages you always wanted to, finish the stories you always wished, rip and tear the past that holds you back, and glue together your or others’ books pages. And if you will once have the cover that you always dreamed of, don’t forget the real value that hides behind appearances.
